It is a new concept aimed at providing easy access to anyone who wants to seek expert help in quitting tobacco. It is being launched in Lucknow, India on May 31, 2000 (World No-Tobacco Day) with UshaFone. At present the services shall be available to Lucknowites only but very soon the concept shall spread the world over.
All that a person seeking help needs to do is to make a phone call on a given mobile phone number (98380-22333) between 8 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. The volunteer receiving the phone shall listen to the problem and shall accordingly refer the caller to any of the first-line counsellors from the schedule.
The first line of counsellors comprises volunteers who are aware of the tobacco related problems and are capable of giving general advice. This volunteer bank comprises doctors, artist, young graduates and other citizens. The phone numbers along with the slot when these volunteers are available shall also be advertised.
If the person seeking advice needs further help the first line counsellors will direct him to one or more of the second line counsellors, depending on that persons requirements. The second line of counsellors comprises experts such as senior doctors, de-addiction specialists and psychologists. The second line of counsellors also comprises yogic and meditation centres. If needed a meeting can also be arranged with these counsellors.
