Botanical Gardens are lush green which attracts a lot of crowd for morning and evening walk. A poster exhibition was held which received a tremendous response.
May 26, 2000 --- Tilak Hall, Vidhan Sabha, Lucknow
Tilak Hall is one of the gathering places in the Legistative Assembly. This particular venue was chosen to gain the government support. The event was inaugurated by the minister of anti-liquor department which itself was a great impetus to the whole campaign. The forum consisted of senior doctors and beaurecrats who requested the government to ban spitting/smoking in public places. The passage of the bill against tobacco shall be expedited as told by the minister.
May 16, 2000 - Pratibha Cinema Hall & May 19, 2000 - Novelty Cinema Hall, Lucknow
Pratibha and Novelty Cinema Halls are one of the most visited public places in the town. Till now the tobacco industry has been riding piggyback on the entertainment industry to advertise its products. These cinema halls set a precedence by allowing us to combine tobacco education with entertainment. To reach the maximum number of people evening show was selected and exhibition was held from 5 to 7. Pamphlets were distributed informing people about the same. Seniors doctors were called to provide free on-the-spot counselling. Public was very pleased with the initiative and a few people quit this habit there itself.
May 13, 2000 --- Aminabad Inter College, Lucknow
Aminabad Inter College, Lucknow is a very old school with around 3000 students on roll from middle class families. Besides the exhibition, a survey was also conducted among students of IX standard. Most of the students were unaware of the deadly effects of tobacco. A few students who had started smoking decided to quit it with immediate effect. Some of them whose parents and relatives were addicted to tobacco promised to make an effort to help them quitting it. The response was overwhelming as a number of phone calls were received for further counselling.
